Mace Spice - Make Some Extra Spicy Food | United Spicefruit
The fruits of an evergreen tree that is typically 9 to 12 meters high are used to make the two very different spices, nutmeg and mace spice. The fruit's dried reticulated "aril" is called mace or javitri, and its dried seed kernel is called nutmeg. Typically, trees are unisexual and can produce either male or female blooms. While female flowers are often solitary, male flowers are born in bunches. The fruit is a soft, drupe-like fruit with a central longitudinal groove that is spherical in shape and pale yellow in color. The firm, shiny, black shell of the nutmeg seed is covered with a brilliant, beautiful mace that bursts open along the groove as the fruit reaches maturity.
